d i y : my blingtastic heels

A couple of weeks ago my friend and I decided to make a trip to the local craft store where I came across a ONE POUND tub of rhinestones! One pound you say, what ever will you do with a pound of rhinestones?! I plan to put bling on anything and everything I can, that's what I will do with them!
This is where one of my other DIY projects comes in - rhinestone covered, cobalt blue platform pumps!

You will need one pair of simple platform heels. I found mine at Target for $30!

E-6000 indsutrial strength glue and at least 150 rhinestones of various sizes.

These little chopstick looking things called 'rhinestone placement tool' makes it so much easier to pick up and place the rhinestones into the glue.

Start in the corner and work your way across the top line of the platform and fill in.

I covered the heel of mine also but didn't take a close up photo. You can sort of see it in this one below.

the sock bun

I've had my eye on this trend that kept popping up all over Pinterest aka my obsession.

Finally I decided to do a little research on how to do this fancy little no heat curling trick, yes I repeat NO HEAT! I have to say I was little skeptical after I got the sock in, but the results were actually quite amazing! Even the hubs said "holy expletive, NO WAY! It's beautiful! That was worth losing a sock for."
So here are my crappy pictures from my phone and a few extra tricks on how to try it out for yourself.

Hair before it went into the sock bun

Le Sock Bun...goodnight

Hair right after I pulled out the sock bun. Those 3 crazy ends sticking up at the top of my head are my bangs (more on that later)

Over exposed, fuzzy close up after running my hands through it (my hair is really not this orange)

After I calmed down the frizz and put some hair spray in it...voila, Le Sock Bun Curls!

You will need:
1 tube sock (preferably not a mans sock, it creates too big of a "donut" and you will end up with more waves than curls)
Cut the toe part off the sock
Pony tail holder
Spray bottle with water

How to create The Sock Bun Curls:
Flip your head over and make a ponytail right on the top of your head. Don't fasten the ponytail holder too tight or you will get a kink in the morning.
Spritz the hair sticking out of the ponytail and get it pretty wet, not soaking, but more than damp.
Brush through it to smooth it out.
Slip the donut onto your hair and pull all the way to the ends.
This is the tricky part if you have lots of layers; pull your over the donut and start tucking your hair under then just slowing start rolling the donut down towards your head.
There is no need to fasten it with anything as it is very secure once you've rolled it all the way down.
Go to bed and undo and wake up to fabulous curls in the morning!
*My bangs got kinked really funny so I ended up flat ironing them. I think the next time I will pull my bangs out before I make the high ponytail and just bobby pin them back.*

This picture kind of shows it step by step.

If you have shorter hair, maybe try doing two really small donuts more towards the back of your head to see if that works.
Next time I will be cutting my sock my shorter so that the donut is not so fat; that way I will get tighter curls.

P.S. This sock bun can also be used to create a very elegant 'Carrie Bradshaw' bun. Just leave a few pieces out before you twist down onto your head and then wrap them around the bun and secure with some bobby pins.

Let me know if you try it and how it turns out!

I really do love donuts,

trend alert: hair chalking/sea dipped/pastel tips

I am totally digging this new trend! Especially since it can be a temporary fun change to your hair. Normally I'm not a fan of wrecking a pretty face with crazy colors like magenta, purple or blue. But I love the subtlety of this look.

Extreme

High pigment

More wearable just a touch of color

I want to try blue or maybe red

I almost wish the highlighted parts of my hair were blonde enough to pull off this rainbow effect. Love this chicks style too!

Here's one way to achieve the pastel tips on your own. Obviously you have to have some sections of highlighting if you have darker hair or you need to have light hair to make this work. But in this blog she explains pretty well how to use the Kevin Murphy Color Bug .

Would you try this out? If so what color would you do?

take your maxi from summer to fall!

First off, please excuse my lengthy absence. I have been mega sick (stupid Austin allergens and boo on whoever gave me this pesky little virus) and then Halloween snuck up on us and we had some drama go down at one of our rental properties that has majorly consumed my motivation to be near a 'smart' device i.e. phone, computer, ipad.

Anywho, since the holidays are upon us and I've been trying REAL hard to be diligent with my 12 step shopaholic program (not really a thing, but sometimes I think it should be) I decided to go through my closet and figure out how I can recycle a lot of my pieces or just wear them in different ways to make them feel fun and new. I reallyreallyreally love wearing maxi dresses; they make me feel tall and elegant. Two things that don't happen often unless I'm in 4" heels or...a maxi. Unfortunately the hubs is not a huge fan of them so I don't wear them very much, usually just with the gals. But I thought maybe I could I figure out how to wear them more often when he's not around and what a more perfect place, then work!

*These pics were taken after my second day back to work from being sick and after my awesome date with NyQuil. So I did wake up thinking 'hot damn i feel amazing' ...and again, I look like a grease monkey in my pics. Note to self: apply a little powder before next photo sesh mmkay. ;-)

So here's the recipe for this SUPER comfy and cute little ensemble:
Maxi Dress
Contrasting color button up, I found mine recently at Le Target for $20! Leave the top 2 or 3 buttons undone then button the rest to the center of your chest. Tuck the shirt up underneath and tie the ends in a knot and tuck the tails up underneath.
Add a cute waist belt.
Throw on some fun accessories and shoes (I would have worn wedges to dress it up a bit more for work but I "hemmed" this dress to wear with flat sandals) and voila!

You could also do: maxi dress, blazer and put the belt over the blazer with some cute wedges or heels to pull this look off for work. To keep from looking frumpy or little house on the prairie, make sure your maxi isn't ball gown style with tons of extra material.

What do ya think? Would y'all wear this work?

wear to work Thursday

I was going to try and do the inspirational work outfit every Wednesday but life is just busy like a bumble bee. So here is the basic gist of the outfit I wore yesterday. I don't have a picture of myself in the actual outfit. I know, sad.  ;) The pieces on the right are what I wore and then the 3 pictures on the left I wanted to share this cute new way to wear your scarves.

1. Camel and White striped ultra soft Mossimo sweater from Target. I ended up buying it in a size large so that later on I can wear it with black leggings and boots!
2. My fave earrings, Kendra Scott Wren in turquoise. Turquoise and coral compliment eachother nicely.
3. Tortoise shell watch with Pave crystals that I found somewhere for like $15!
4. Simple white work slacks that I'm sure I picked up at Papaya or Agaci Too
5. Peep toe cheetah print heels. The pair I own I've had for ages and they have little bows on them. Le cute!
6. A beautiful coral scarf that my Momma gifted to me
7. A gorgeous turqouise brooch that I received as a bridesmaids gift, to pull the colors together

Keep in mind all the outfits I post are meant as inspirations for you. It's so easy to put your own flare or style into them.

The picture of the yellow scarf is where I got the inspiration from on how to wear my coral one.
Here's how:
Fold the scarf in half. Loop around your neck. Pull only one strand of the scarf through the loop. Twist the loop and pull the other strand through the loop. Add your pretty brooch and voila!
