my latest DIY project: a personalized lyrics, hand-scripted scarf

I was surfing the blogosphere the other day and came across this lovely blog Stamp48 that had a precious DIY project that I instantly fell in love with! I couldn't wait any longer, I had to make this scarf.
So yesterday I popped into Joann's to pick up the ink (30% off, score!) and then swung over to Sam Moon where I picked up a white scarf!

Instead of a poem or a quote I chose to do a song that means the world to me. It is the chorus of my hubby and I's First Dance song - 'Who I Am' by Wade Bowen. There is just something about having these lyrics wrapped around me keeping me warm and cozy on this crisp fall day.

'And I love to watch you laugh and smile, I love to watch you dream

Love it when you take my hand let me know you believe in me And I love it that you're my girl, I love that I'm your man Now that you're in my life Baby I know exactly who I am'

The ink

Lyrics completed, letting the ink dry

Voila, le precious personalized script scarf!

What lyrics, poem or quote would you write on your scarf? Please share with me if you end up making one of these for yourself or as a present. Look out friends and fam, I totally intend on making these for holiday or birthday presents!

oh she crafty huh,

  2. HI!!! Love this scarf!! I'm totally making these to for my sisters for xmas. So you happen to know what fabric the scarfs are made from?? is it a blend??

  3. Thanks so much Crys, I will let you know!
AAR- thank you! Your sisters will love them. :) The scarf I bought was 100% acrylic. It had less 'hairy' fibers than the others, making for a smoother writing surface.

  4. Thanks for sharing. I plan to make one tonight! Did you freehand or trace?

  5. I freehanded the script. One tip - test out the 'marker' on an old tshirt ahead of time. This way you can get the feel for how much ink to squeeze out of the marker and the drag the fabric creates while trying to write. Tip: I had to trace over my words 3 or 4 times to get them dark. Some words like 'love' I made very bold and dark. Also, don't be afraid to write at the very edge of the scarf- it looks cool when it's wrapped around your neck. I hope this helps. I would love to see a picture of your finished product!

  8. hey, that's great! If you upload your picture to a website like Shutterfly or Photobucket type of site you should be able to link it in the comment.
I haven't washed my scarf yet but the directions on the marker box said that if you iron the ink, to set it, you can wash it?? Maybe test a corner of it in the sink to see if it bleeds or not?

    The text is Dr. Seuss:

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”

  12. Cute idea! My friends and I tried this today. Mine is a quote from "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T.S. Eliot.

  16. Has anyone tried this on a different color scarf? I want to make one for my friend's birthday next week, but I think she may like a brighter scarf, such as pink or teal with black writing...

  17. I tried it on red and it came out great. I think any color would work!
